quilts for Alzheimer's patients

Although this isn't about crocheting, I thought there might be some who also do quilting. Since this is the "crafty" corral, not the crochet corral, I'm squeaking by here on a technicality. LOL

Since my dad had Alzheimer's this is something that caught my eye. It is a project to make lap quilts for Alzheimer's patients. You can read this blog that talks about the program and also visit the ADCS site. It doesn't really give a lot of details there, but they answer e-mails very quickly.

I was looking through my yarn today, and I know my husband would vehemently disagree, but I really don't have much yarn. I am down to the "odd skeins", which means I have one skein of a good number of colors, but not enough of any one color to do much with - except possibly the blue I bought to make another police box (which ain't gonna happen, folks!). Of course, there are lots you can do by mixing colors, but you know my policy - fewer tails the better! LOL

Speaking of the police box, I am almost finished it. I need to do an edging around, sew in the tails, and am considering whether to write Police Box on it. Have a look. I am pretty pleased with the way it came out, but don't intend to tackle such a project again for a while.

The afghan did have a little visitor ... Can you tell who it is?

Will I write up the pattern for this? Hmm. Well, I did start to, but then I sort of ... quit. However, maybe when I'm done with the edging and tails, I might tackle getting it all down. It's really not all that difficult. Just a matter of changing colors and having all those little bobbins hanging about and getting tangled up. Satisfying to get it done though.

I will be back to making squares with these single skeins, most likely or perhaps thin scarves as I think a single super saver or I Love This Yarn skein is big enough for that.

That's all for now.

Happy crocheting!

  1. Just a note to say - the "funny" vote is for hating to tuck in tails and getting waylaid during pattern writing (both ailments I suffer from), not for Alzheimer's (quite prevalent in my family). :) God bless and thanks for posting the quilt link.

  2. I also hate tucking tails. Never noticed the print friendly thing you've added. How did you do that?

I lost what you told me about how to add the ditty from one blog to another.

Shhhhhhhh, don't tell hubby; but you won! I'll be announcing it on the next post and sending you your winnings. Congrats my friend
